Construction update & SF Pride!

Hey all! The chaos has finally subsided for a moment. For those who were wondering… our wedding was perfect! We’ll post more pictures later.

I’ve been getting a lot of emails asking when we expect to open up. As of now, we are still getting our permits signed off with the city of Berkeley and remodeling the shop. Here’s a little glimpse at the disaster that’s taking place as I type.

After construction is complete, hopefully in about 3 weeks, our next step is to install our bakery equipment. Once everything looks all nice and pretty, we need to get it approved by the health department and fire and safety. Once all that is squared away, they hand us our official business license! We don’t really have an exact opening date just yet but we’re hoping to be up and running within a month or so.

In the meantime… we’ve decided to pair up with PETA for SF Pride this year! We had so much fun dressing up at “lettuce people” and handing out vegetarian starter kits last year, we decided to sponsor the truck this year! Grab a veg starter kit packet this year and find more info on our shop as well as a 25% off coupon on your first purchase!

We’re getting super pumped about everything coming up in the next few weeks! We hope to see some of you at Pride on Sunday, June 27th. The parade kicks off at 10:30 a.m. at Market & Beale and ends at Market & 8th St. in downtown San Francisco.

If you can’t make it to Pride, we hope to see you in the store very soon!

Permits and weddings and chaos… oh my!

Sorry for the lag on posting. So much has been happening lately! If you are reading this, you know that last week we launched our new website and had a photo shoot with Kat Spoer. Miss Rockwell De Vil did an amazing job on my hair and makeup! Here’s one of the pics…

On a personal side note, we have been mad crazy busy trying to organize all the stuff for our “traditional” wedding on Sunday. I FINALLY got my dress from Fairy Goth Mother in London and my custom-made (ridiculously cute) shoes from Iron Fist Clothing. *squeal*

The last few days our house had been a madhouse. People in and out, and sleeping on couches. Not to mention we all have different sleeping habits and some are still jet-lagged from the trip here from Germany. Throw in 2 cats and a chihuahua and you got yourself some restlessness.

It’s been busy, but it’s been fun. Tonight we plan to stuff our faces full of Gracias Madre and drink like our livers don’t exist. Well, except for our straight edge friends. They get to be our designated drivers by default. I’m betting by midnight at least 5 of us will be screaming Journey and/or Queen ballads while hanging out the window. I’m sure it will be a night to remember and a hell of a day to pay for tomorrow. Yay weddings!

As for the business, we finally got our building permit, bought our equipment for the bakery and had the retaining wall put in. There are a few more things we need to check off our list in order to get our official business license but we’ve been busting our butts to get it done. We still don’t have an official opening date but we’re getting closer to our goal. We hope the rest will go smoothly. Think good thoughts!

I hope you all have a great weekend. Now let’s get this married thing started!

In other exciting news…

We’ve just caught wind of an all vegan cupcake competition!

The Rock Paper Scissors Collective is holding their 2nd annual vegan cupcake bake-off on May 22nd, from 2pm-5pm

If you’re interested in the opportunity to compete, submit a full cupcake recipe HERE by May 5th!

The event is being held at 2278 Telegraph Ave. in Oakland. For just $4, you’ll be given a plate, fork, napkin, a fancy little badge, a score card, and a sample of each of the 10 competing cupcakes.

Tell all your friends!
Suck at baking? No problem! They’re looking for judges too!

While we’re on the subject of baking… the folks in SF are gearing up for their 4th SF Vegan Bakesale!

The benefiting organizations for this upcoming round will be WildCare (the only place to take injured and/or sick wild animals for good quality care in the bay area) and Virunga National Park in DR, Congo.

The money they’ll raise will be used to protect the mountain gorillas who live in Virunga.

There are roughly 720 mountain gorillas remaining on Earth, and over half live in the forests of the Virunga mountains in Central Africa. They desperately need the money to help protect the ones who remain.

Check back here or on Vegansaurus for more details on the time and exact location.

Last but not least…

There’s a new dog food on the market we’re dying to try! The Humane Society of the United States has released a cruelty-free, all natural and certified organic “Humane Choice” dog food.

The HSUS developed this new product to offer consumers a wholesome and nutritious dog food that does not contain animal-based proteins or support the factory farming industry. The Humane Choice dog food is currently available in several independently owned pet supply stores and at PETCO.com and will soon be on store shelves at selected Whole Foods locations this spring. You can also order a bag (or 10) at Amazon.com.

The HSUS will receive 6 percent of the wholesale price of each 6.6-pound bag sold and will use the funds in its programs to provide spaying and neutering and other veterinary care for animals, to rescue animals from natural disasters and cruelty cases, to conduct undercover investigations of animal abuse and more.

SF Weekly’s 2010 Web Awards!

A few weeks ago our friends at SF Weekly asked us to be one of the sponsors for the 2010 SF Weekly Web Awards. The event was being held at 111 Minna and celebrating the best of the Bay Area’s web and social media scene. We were told there would be art, music, free food, a couple hundred people, and most importantly, an OPEN BAR.

SOLD!

After spending all day in our rental kitchen slaving away over a hot oven, we finally came to an agreement on which new flavors to make. We finished just in the nick of time, packed it up and rushed to get out to the city. When we arrived at the event, we unloaded, shook a few hands and headed straight for the bar to congratulate ourselves on all our hard work. Ice cold, FREE Asahi, what?!

The event started at 5pm and was scheduled to run until 9pm. By 6:30, all 400 samples of our Pina Colada, Irish Cream, Lemon and Mocha Almond rolls were GONE!

We mingled a bit, checked out the artwork, and hung around just long enough to congratulate our friends at Vegansaurus on winning ‘SF’s Best Blog Post’ before packing it up.

It was a long day, but well worth seeing our friends and meeting some very cool new people. Thanks to Holly and the rest of the SF Weekly crew for having us!

On another note, if you’re looking for something to do this Sunday, Issues in Oakland (where the East Bay Vegan Bakesale is held) is holding an in-store vegan cooking demonstration from 6-9pm. The Post Punk Extravaganza West Coast Tour will feature traveling vegan chef and author Joshua Ploeg doing a cooking show demonstration from his book In Search of the Lost Taste, a screening of the Plan-It X Records Documentary by Joe Biel, and an “edible secrets” mobile museum by Mia Partlow and Michael Hoerger.

Sadly, we can’t make this one since we’ll be snapping pictures of hot chicks for our storefront photo shoot.

HOLLERRRRRR!

You should go though.

Storefront update and some sexy bit**es!

I’ve been getting a ton of emails and questions as to what our storefront status is so… here’s a little update. We’ve been working our butts off getting all of our ‘ducks in a row’ so to speak. We’re in the process of getting all our permits signed off by the proper people, ordering all our kitchen equipment and finding people to help out with other miscellaneous things we need done to make the shop function.

We’re hoping to be up and running by the first week of July assuming everything continues to go smoothly.

With that said, one of the things we’ve been working on organizing is a photo shoot for the press and for YOU! We’ve got an amazing photographer lined up as well as 3 insanely beautiful models to represent Cinnaholic.

Here’s a sneak peek at WHO we’ve got in store. Stay tuned for WHAT we’ve got in store next!

The Sweet Shoppe Festival @ Jack London Square!

CALLING ALL VEGAN BAKERS!

Recently we were contacted by an event organizer for the 1st ever Oakland Sweet Shoppe Festival. What the hell is that you say?
“The Sweet Shoppe is Northern California’s premiere celebration of all that is sweet. The two-day indoor confectionery festival celebrates our regions pastry chefs, confectioners, cupcake fairies, local restaurants, specialty vendors, vintners and more.”

Seriously? A whole weekend surrounded by sugar? Does life get any better?!

It’s time for vegan bakers to UNITE! If you are a confectioner or a vegan baker with a certified kitchen, I highly recommend participating in this. Since it’s not all vegan, we need to get some of our best bakers in there to represent! Long story short, after doing some calculations and taking some other personal obligations into account, we sadly had to pass on the opportunity to participate this year. We’re really hoping to jump in next year though.

If you’re interested in participating, check out the website and contact Consuelo – the super awesome organizer. Hurry though, deadlines are coming up quick!

Where?
Jack London Square
When?
Saturday, May 8th 2010 from 11am – 10pm and Sunday, May 9th 2010  from 11am – 6pm.

For more details, check HERE.

Hope to see some of you guys there during our scavenger hunt for vegan chocolate!

Recap of the East Bay Vegan Bakesale + new flavors!!!

Last week was a pretty exciting (and terrifying) week for us. Before the ink was even dry on our lease, we started getting email alerts about press articles being released by SF Weekly, VegNews and the SF Bay Guardian announcing our store front grand opening coming up in July. Of course, we squealed with excitement like 12 year old girls. Then, reality set in. Now we must embark on the dreaded journey of the PERMIT PROCESS. We’re crossing our fingers and saying our prayers hoping that it’s not going to be as bad as we think it is. PLEASE, GOD.

All exciting/terrifying news aside, it was time to get back to baking for the next East Bay Vegan Bakesale in front of Issues Magazine in Oakland on Saturday. We decided to go with our Old Fashioned, Mocha Almond, Peanut Butter & Jelly and our new Oreo Cookie roll!

Despite the fact the crowd was a little slower this time, all 4 dozen were gone in about an hour. Not too bad, eh? I have no idea who made the vegan version of the Cadbury Creme Eggs, but I want to keep you chained as a prisoner in my kitchen and make you mass produce them for me daily. If they weren’t $2 a pop, I would have bought them all. In fact, I was very close to shoveling the entire tray into my purse in hopes that no one would see me sneak off with them. Next time, I suppose.

As always, the lovely Fat Bottom Bakery girls did a fantastic job organizing the event and raised an impressive $1,200 for Animal Place Sanctuary and the Haiti Emergency Relief Fund.

Sunday was our semi-relaxing day. Our wedding planner Karine placed an order for a dozen rolls so we decided to play around with our recipe a little bit and try out one of our newer flavors… APPLE PIE! And yes, it tasted as good as it looks.

All I can say is, what a rad week!

Wondering where to find us next? Check out our CBS 5 News mention! We’ll be servin’ up tasty samples in a variety of delicious flavors on Wednesday, April 7th at SF Weekly’s ‘1st Annual Web Awards‘ at 111 Minna. Best part? It’s FREE! So get yourself on the guest-list NOW by emailing sfwrsvp[at]sfweekly.com!

See you on April 7th!

East Bay Vegan Bakesale – Round deuce!

As most of you know, life is CRAZY for us right now. Between holding down a full time job, going to school, filling bakery orders, planning our wedding and marathon training, we barely have time to breathe! I told the hubs it was time to take a break from all the bakesale’s and charity stuff for a minute. This beezy needs some SLEEP!

Then I saw this ADORABLE flyer. By far, the raddest one yet. LOVE the new logo!

The uber awesome ladies of Fat Bottom Bakery asked if we were interested in contributing and of course, I couldn’t resist.

So…. it  looks like we’ll be seeing  you at the next East Bay Vegan Bakesale in front of Issues on Saturday, March 20th!
